Terms of Service
Last updated: September 1, 2026
These terms govern your use of this website and, where noted, the seasonal lighting services provided by Watts of Joy Christmas Lighting in Spearfish, South Dakota and the surrounding Black Hills. By using this site or booking our services, you agree to them.
Using this website
You may use this site to learn about our services and to request a quote. You agree not to misuse it, interfere with its operation, or try to reach areas you are not authorized to use. The text, photographs, logos, and design on this site belong to Watts of Joy and may not be copied or reused without written permission.
Photographs of completed installations show past work. Every property is different, and the display we design for you may look different from what is pictured.
Quotes and pricing
The pricing ranges shown on this site are planning guides, not offers. Your price depends on linear footage, roof height and access, the number of trees and features included, and the complexity of the design. We provide a written quote after a free consultation, and that written quote is the price that applies.
A quote is valid for 30 days unless we say otherwise. Installation dates are first come, first served, and we may close the schedule for a season once it fills.
Deposits, payment, and cancellation
We require a 50% deposit to hold an installation date. Payment terms are stated in your written quote or agreement. Late payment may pause service, including maintenance visits and takedown. If payment is not made within 7 days of the installation of the lights, we can repossess the lights from your property.
If you cancel before installation, we refund your deposit less any costs already incurred for custom-cut materials. Once a display has been installed, the payment is not refundable.
Seasonal lease of lights and materials
Our service is all-inclusive, and the lights, clips, cords, timers, stakes, and other materials remain the property of Watts of Joy. You are leasing the display for the season, not buying it. You agree not to remove, relocate, or modify the installed display, and not to have anyone else service it.
You are responsible for damage to leased materials caused by tampering, pets, other contractors, or intentional acts. Ordinary wear, weather damage, and normal bulb failure are ours to cover.
Access, safety, and your property
You agree to give us safe access to the property on the scheduled dates, including access to exterior power, and to keep pets secured while our crew is working. Please tell us in advance about anything we should know: fragile or recently repaired roofing, solar panels, security systems, or buried utilities near stake locations.
We use professional-grade fasteners designed to hold lights without damaging roofs, gutters, or fascia. We are not responsible for pre-existing damage, or for damage that results from gutters, trim, or surfaces that were already in poor condition.
Scheduling and weather
Installation and takedown dates are estimates. Snow, ice, wind, and extreme cold can delay work, and safety comes first. We will contact you to reschedule when weather moves a date. Takedown normally happens in January, weather permitting.
Stay-Lit Guarantee
If part of your display stops working during the season, call us, and we will come out and repair it at no charge. The guarantee covers the lights and materials we installed. It does not cover damage caused by tampering, animals, other contractors, or events outside our control, and it ends when the display is removed for the season.
Electricity
Holiday lighting draws power from your property. You are responsible for your own electricity costs and for making sure the circuits we connect to are in safe working order. If we find unsafe wiring, we will stop and talk to you before continuing.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by South Dakota law, our total liability for any claim related to our services is limited to the amount you paid us for that season. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Dakota, without regard to conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in South Dakota.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. The terms in effect when you booked apply to that booking.
